May and June are months when children and youth from our Integration Program are finishing school years. This year, three of our children have graduated Elementary school. For most of us, finishing a school year is more-less usual thing, but when some of our children graduate elementary or secondary school, we believe that our humble team has a right to be proud.

Congratulations to our schoolboys who graduated elementary school!

Hours and hours of extra school classes and homework assistance are proved to be useful. Excellent for the future of our schoolboys, and good role models for the younger children in the house.

Education of the refugees is one of the focal points of JRS Serbia since 2015. From 2017 and establishing of our Integration House “Pedro Arrupe” this segment was implemented in several activities:

  • Lectures of the Serbian and English language in the Arrupe House,
  • Workshops in the Arrupe House and daily excursions and socialization for further language learning,
  • Enrolment of children to official education system of Serbia, in elementary and secondary schools.

From 2021, with start-up of Transitional Accommodation project, our Integration Program was enhanced on education of youth refugees and their enrolment in the government education system, and on preparing for employment.

Our activities on education were not just connected to lectures to youth and children and their school enrolment. During our cooperation with schools and teachers, we have recognized need for further strengthening of tolerance as the base for multicultural school communities in Serbia.  Moreover, we consider that systematic training of teachers and schoolchildren are necessary conditions to support the transformation of negative views and to create path towards establishing multicultural and inclusive school communities, which will lead us to achieve desired social changes in Serbia. We are continuing our activities in this direction.
