Pedro Arrupe, former Superior General of the Society of Jesus. The letter, written in a spirit of gratitude and reflection, highlights Arrupe\u2019s pivotal role in shaping the Jesuit mission of integrating faith and justice.<\/p>\n

The authors recall how Arrupe\u2019s leadership inspired the Society\u2019s commitment to serving faith and promoting justice, a vision rooted in his personal experiences in Japan and his witness to the suffering caused by injustice. They emphasize that, for Arrupe, faith and justice are inseparable – justice lies at the heart of faith, and faith is found in the pursuit of justice.<\/p>\n

The letter acknowledges the challenges and sacrifices faced by those who pursue justice, including misunderstandings and even martyrdom. Arrupe\u2019s perseverance and spiritual wisdom are celebrated, with the writers recalling his example of both deep prayer and humble service to the poor.<\/p>\n
