We organised the workshop “How to Find Your First Job in Serbia” for Ukrainians looking for employment and seeking to better understand the Serbian labour market and the opportunities available to them.
The workshop covered different aspects of the job-search process, from understanding the labour market and available job-search platforms to looking for positions according to one’s profession and presenting previous work experience and skills to potential employers.
Particular attention was given to transferable or “universal” skills, as well as ways to approach the job search while navigating language barriers. Participants had the opportunity to learn how to present their experience and qualifications when applying for different positions, as well as to become more familiar with aspects of employment culture and the working environment in Serbia.
“A very useful meeting, both in terms of understanding where and in which positions I can find employment, and in realising that there are always some opportunities. I particularly appreciated hearing other people’s stories and experiences.” shared one of the participants.
Alongside practical advice, participants had the opportunity to hear real-life examples and experiences, exchange their own perspectives and ask questions about the challenges they face when looking for work in a new country.

The workshop also addressed practical questions around preparing a CV, including what information to include and how to present previous experience, as well as some specific aspects of employment culture and labour legislation in Serbia.

Held in a friendly and open atmosphere, the workshop was available both in person and online via Zoom. The aim was not only to provide useful information, but also to help participants gain a clearer understanding of the Serbian labour market and develop a practical plan for the next steps in their job search.
