The Department of Educational Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade and the Department of Multidisciplinary Master’s Studies in Educational Policies of the Rectorate of Belgrade University, together with our partners from the organization ADRA Serbia, organized an online lecture for students of these two departments on the topic of the experience of refugee and migrant children in (in)formal education in Serbia.
JRS Serbia has been recognized for years as an important factor in the field of education of children refugees and asylum seekers. On this occasion, our colleague Darko Stamenkovic, special pedagogue, gave a presentation on the process of enrolling children in the formal education system, on how the process of educating refugee/migrant children works, but also on the challenges of formal and informal education of refugee/migrant children.
The guests at this lecture were also our beneficiaries: Sami Rasouli, a 2nd-year student at the Faculty of Applied Arts, as well as H.K., student of the first grade of the “Techno Art” High School in Belgrade. They talked about their experiences during their education in Serbia, and answered the students’ questions.
The students were more than interested to hear about the boys’ experiences at school, how they felt, how other children and teachers accepted them and how difficult it is to study at a school far from home, in a foreign language.
We are looking forward to new lectures and seminars that we are preparing for the next period, where we will have the opportunity to break stereotypes about refugees/migrants with real information.
