One of the primary tasks of the employees at the Integration House after receiving a new beneficiary is to integrate them into the educational system after an adaptation period.

A significant percentage of children who stayed at the Integration House during their time spent in Serbia were enrolled in the school system, in a class appropriate to their previous education. There are several ways in which the professional team assesses the child’s previous level of education, but after the assessment, the child is placed in an education level adapted to them personally.

The JRS team successfully collaborates with several elementary and high schools in Belgrade, one of which is the “Branko Pešić” Elementary School, with which we have the longest-standing cooperation.

Ahead of the winter break and New Year holidays, the Integration House team and employees from the Elementary School agreed to hold classes in the Integration House premises. Through joint efforts for successful collaboration and better integration of migrant children, the following concept was developed: beneficiaries of the Integration House, who are also students at the elementary school, along with their classmates, Serbian language teachers from the “Duško Pešić” Elementary School, and the special educator from the Integration House who regularly communicates with the teachers at this elementary school, participated at the classes.

The classes covered innovative learning methods (adapted to the language knowledge of children from the refugee population) addressing topics such as types and forms of words, word order in sentences, and learning new phrases.

The classes took place in a positive atmosphere, the beneficiaries were cheerful and motivated to learn, and the teachers expressed gratitude for the hospitality. It was agreed to hold such classes more frequently.

As the pinnacle of these joint activities, a gathering of all presents was organized, accompanied by a meal, where we had the opportunity to summarize impressions and plan new meetings in the coming year.
