STORY OF THE SYRIAN BOY SEPARATED FROM HIS FAMILY

When the war in Syria started, boy NN and his family faced danger and destruction of their home. They were forced to flee to Turkey, where they spent several years in refugee camps. Not feeling safe to return to Syria, they decided to continue towards Europe. On their refugee travel, while trying to cross from Greece to Northern Macedonia, he was separated from the rest of family who failed to continue his journey and remained in the refugee center of Greece. NN was registered as a minor at the entrance to Serbia and handed over to the care of the local Center for Social Work in a town in south of Serbia. Social workers from that place contacted our Integration House, and after a negative PCR test on Covid-19, N.N. was admitted to our Integration House. During the examination, he was diagnosed with certain health problems due to which he is under regular medical supervision, what our team takes care for.

Boy is included in the elementary school, and likes to go there. Besides learning, school has become a place where he met new friends. The wish of N.N. family is to continue their journey from Greece to Italy, and they hope that as war refugees they will be allowed to seek asylum in that European country. Although he is sometimes worried about the uncertainty that the future brings, the minor NN is mostly smiling, and they fit well into the family atmosphere of our house.
