At our Community Center, we celebrated another JRS anniversary: a day when we gather with the people who make our community lively, strong, and filled with solidarity. This year, we took a moment to reflect on the beginnings of JRS – an initiative founded in 1980 as a response to the refugee crisis in Southeast Asia. The commitment to people on the move, which shaped JRS from its earliest days, continues to guide our work today.
The celebration took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. We brought together people who, throughout the year, have passed through our space, joined activities, helped others, socialized, and contributed to building our community. With a quiz, karaoke, and many conversations, it was a day that reminded us how meaningful it is to come together without rush or formality.
Moments like these remind us that our work is not defined only by programs and activities, but by the relationships we build day by day. In our space, we want everyone to feel they have a place where they belong – where they can laugh, relax, and become part of a wider community. That is the essence of what we do: creating an environment where people feel seen, respected, and supported.
In the coming period, we will continue working on activities that bring people together, strengthen connections, and bring joy to those who need it most. We are preparing holiday workshops, visits, and a special New Year’s workshop.
Thank you for being part of our story this year.
