JRS is strengthening role of education towards open, inclusive, and intercultural society of Serbia, by formation of values of schoolchildren and youth necessary for life and work in modern and tolerant society. Key link in this process are teachers.

The seminar for teachers licensed by the Institute for Improvement of Education was held in the city of Kragujevac on February 24, covering the issue of interculturalism as a value opposed to prejudice and discrimination. In duration of 8 hours, seminar produced 23 schoolteachers trained on this issue and prepared to implement new skills and knowledge in their daily schoolwork.

Besides direct implementation in educational work and adoption and nurturing of intercultural values in school communities, teachers will implement new skills in the extracurricular activities, and transfer this to schoolchildren who will learn and adopt open and intercultural peer interaction in school and in the local community, and integration of refugees.

Additional impact on the school communities will be accomplished with educational materials from the JRS Project “Change”, that was implemented in EU countries, and it is now adapted and translated for the Serbian schools and distributed to teachers on the seminar for the classes of the Citizen’s education and for the extra-curricular activities. JRS will follow post seminar activities and explore potential for further improvements in the education system and school communities, in the sphere of tolerance, interculturality, and integration.

The great interest of teachers in professional development is one of the key points on which we will plan future projects, activities, and seminars.
